Sarah Van De Bogart
Founder, VDB Legal Group
How I got here
Prior to founding VDB Legal, I worked at both regional and international law firms assisting clients across a variety of business sectors, including real estate, finance, telecom, food and beverage, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy. Unlike many business attorneys, I have also represented clients in litigation, giving me the benefit of seeing where companies face exposure when a deal goes wrong on the backend. I attended law school at the University of Denver and obtained my undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Colorado.
When i'm out of the office
I’m likely in the mountains or on a plane somewhere. As a Colorado native (born and raised in Steamboat Springs), I love being outdoors – I’m an avid skier and a novice backcountry adventurer. I may be the only person in Colorado who hasn’t taken up mountain biking yet, but that’s because I’m focused on the other hobbies I’m bad at like golf and fly fishing. I love to travel and have been to 20 countries so far, most recently Sri Lanka. The love of my life is my son, followed in a close second by my wonderful husband. In Denver, you’ll find me on a patio drinking a glass of rosé or at a show at Red Rocks.
What I’m passionate about
Over the past ten years, I have developed a strong interest in international human rights issues and have worked and volunteered to advance these causes. I worked for the UN in Cambodia prosecuting war crimes against the leaders of the Khmer Rouge and also provided assistance on the appeal of the war crimes conviction against Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia. In addition, I have represented individuals seeking asylum before the Federal Immigration Court and taught English to refugees at the Emily Griffith School.
